Tara Stewart

Hello! My name is Tara Stewart, and I’m the Principal at S.T.E.P. and Director of Education for WCJS. This is my 26th year in education, and I’m excited for my 4th year here at this amazing facility!

I am a native Austinite, but have spent time living in Alabama, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Bonn, Germany. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Texas A&M University, and my Masters of Science in Educational Psychology and Graduate Academic Certificate in Gifted Education from the University of North Texas. Prior to joining the team at WCJS, I was a secondary school teacher, dance team coach, gifted program facilitator, intervention specialist, high school assistant principal, district Section 504/ADA coordinator, and administrator at a residential neuropsychological/behavioral treatment center.

I began my Master’s work with a desire to better understand my students, which led me to want to share this insight with other teachers. My heart definitely lies with students who struggle, and it has become my mission to help all students have a positive school experience. I’m glad to be “home” with the like-minded work family of GISD, WCJS, and the S.T.E.P. education team!

Please feel free to reach out to me anytime.
